Lyra CEO on Where MSPs Should Start With AI

At Evergreen Elevate in Chicago, Lyra Technology Group CEO Elliott Hyman sat down with Sharon Florentine of the Global Technology Industry Association to talk about how MSPs can move from AI curiosity to AI implementation.

Elevate was designed to give MSP owners something they can actually put to work in their business. With 120 MSPs across seven countries, Evergreen’s Lyra has an unusually wide vantage point on what is working in the channel, and the goal of Elevate was to share those lessons back with the community rather than keep them in-house.

On the investment side, Lyra ran an RFP process last fall inviting portfolio companies to apply to become one of its AI labs. Three were selected and received seven-figure investments to fundamentally rethink their internal operations around AI. Elliott sees two distinct fronts for MSPs. The first is internal: identify highly repetitive tasks and start automating them. Overnight ticket queues and alert triage are the low-hanging fruit, along with recurring work around backups and disaster recovery. His advice for owners who do not know where to begin is refreshingly practical, which is to describe your business to an AI tool and ask it where to start. The second front is delivering AI services to SMB clients. Elliott puts the industry at the top of the first inning there, but notes that forward-thinking customers are already asking for help, and Lyra’s furthest-ahead companies are delivering real value.

Spreading those wins across a group this size takes deliberate infrastructure. Lyra shares best practices through internal conferences, is launching its own peer groups exclusively for Lyra and Evergreen companies this year, and is relaunching the Lyra Hub as a home for playbooks, case studies, and instructional videos that teams can comment on and upvote. A regional CEO structure keeps operating company leaders in monthly conversation about what is working, and Lyra has built an internal app that ingests those reports and produces an executive summary surfacing the strongest AI use cases across the portfolio. As Elliot put it, the interest level means good ideas are spreading fast.
